For all of you out there who are into adventures of all sorts and prefer their holiday destinations to be something more than a one-type-of-activity getaway, the answer to your vacation needs is definitely none other than the vivid and charming city of Puerto Vallarta. There you are bound to stumble upon diversity of all sorts – in terms of both people and means of entertainment. In short, Puerto Vallarta can offer you anything you might desire in order to turn your holiday in an unforgettable experience.

A resort city in Mexico, Puerto Vallarta, is situated on the very shores of the Pacific Ocean, right at the mouth of the second largest bay in North America – the Banderas Bay. This goes to prove that the city is a predominantly ‘beach getaway’ packed with all sorts of water activities. Puerto Vallarta is actually voted as Mexico’s ninth best beach destination and is home to many beaches, both crowded, such as Playa de Los Muertos, and more secluded ones like Pizotita and Playa Conchas Chinas. There is even a gay beach known as the Blue Chairs beach. The year-round high temperatures that Puerta Vallarta offers turn it into a lovely place for a vacation, regardless of when you decide to visit it. It is popular as a favorite spring break spot for many American students. The water sports you can freely indulge in include snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, and fishing. Held since 1956, the Puerto Vallarta International Fishing Tournament is even hosted by Banderas Bay. However, the most popular attraction in terms of water entertainment is the Aquaventura Water Park. There are ten water slides in the park that can please everyone. To add up to your overall enjoyment, you can watch a dolphin show or even swim with the delightful creatures. In the open waters of the ocean you can go whale watching as well as to see the sea turtles.

There are different tours to help you explore the marvelous nature that surrounds Puerto Vallarta. To the east of the city is the jungle clad Sierra Madre Mountains where you can go mountain biking, hiking or even take an off-road ATV tour. There is also the Canopy Adventure Park. There you can feel just like a present-day Tarzan as the park offers zip lines, suspended walkways and viewing platforms.

As for the city itself, it has a diverse spectrum of activities and places to keep you occupied during your stay. You can find an accommodation to meet your budget, whatever it might be – there are four to five star hotels, as well as small family lodgings. The places to eat are plenty too – from average taco stands to flashy restaurants, destined to satisfy your gourmet senses. The El Arrayan restaurant even holds cooking classes to give you an insight of the Mexican cuisine. It needs to be mentioned that Puerto Vallarta is a gay-friendly city and there are lots of places where the members of the LGBT community can feel comfortable – discos, bars, beaches and even gyms. In terms of sports, one can freely indulge in horseback riding (some places even let children under the age of five ride for free with their parents), golf (the city has seven amazing golf courses, designed by world famous golf architects) or tennis (almost all hotels and resorts offer a free usage of a tennis court to their customers).

The variety of events in this fabulous holiday destination needn’t be neglected. There is the Old Town Art Walk in El Centro which happens every Wednesday from October to May; The Flower and Garden Festival; The Electro Beach Puerto Vallarta which starts in the beginning of March and consists of forty two days of electronic music performed by famous Djs; Dia de Muertos; Los Posados and many more. Also, when in town, make sure you go and see the famous landmarks – the Parish Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Cuale Archaeological Museum and the El Caballito sculpture downtown.
