Based on the New York Times article, DOWN FOR LIFE depicts a fateful day
in the life of a 15 year old Latina gang leader “Rascal”, beautifully portrayed by
first time actor Jessica Romero. Leaving the gang, Rascal discovers, is much more difficult than joining. Her situation is further complicated by racial tensions between her Latina gang and a rival black girl gang, a frequent problem today in Los Angeles schools. DOWN FOR LIFE presents a raw, authentic look at a teenager’s life in the ghetto. It was filmed entirely on location in Los Angeles, including at Locke High School where the original article and real life story took place. It stars local youths who, in their first time in front of the camera, deliver powerful performances.

Ten years later, the killer is murdered and Clyde coolly admits guilt whilst warning Nick that he and the system will pay the price for letting him down.

For his fifth feature, Trapero takes his camera into the Argentine prison system,

wakes up one morning to find that one of her two male roommates is dead. Julia
is convicted, and we spend most of the rest of the film observing her relationship
with other prisoners, both before and after the birth of her son, Thomas, and her
growing, close friendship with Marta, a mother incarcerated alongside her several
children.

Shot entirely on location in New York’s West Village, this bittersweet comedy distills

Motherhood forms a genre of one –no other movie has dedicated itself in quite this way to probing exactly what it takes to be a mother, with both wry humor and an acute sense of authenticity.
